Supposed WWII Warzone Map Locations Uncovered In Data Mine Leak

A selection of possible points of interest from the upcoming WWII themed Warzone map have been leaked.

A recent report suggests that the upcoming Call of Duty game from Sledgehammer Games will be set in World War II. It’s codenamed ‘Vanguard’ and is expected to release before the end of the year with a teaser later this summer.

According to that report, Vanguard will tie in to Warzone ‘significantly’. Instead of changing up the layout of Verdansk marginally, it’s expected that an entirely new map will replace the one we currently have. Sledgehammer Games has apparently had much more time to prepare for the update than Treyarch did with Cold War.

Where we dropping, boys?

Another piece of the rumour indicates that the new maps will be set in the Pacific theatre of war. That rumour is corroborated by a new data mine leak which has supposedly uncovered the names of potential points of interest on the upcoming Warzone map.

Discovered by reputed data miner ‘Nanikos’, the potential POI’s point towards several locations that are Pacific themed. Here’s the full list:

  • Resort
  • Capital
  • Radio Station
  • Subpen
  • Farms
  • Airfield
  • Lagoon
  • Beach Head
  • Caldera
  • Mines
  • Village
  • Airstrip
  • Docks
  • Arsenal

Most remain fairly generic – there’s only so much you can gleam from ‘Farm’, ‘Capital’, and ‘Mines’. Other location names seem to tell us quite a bit. ‘Subpen’, for example, further indicates that Vanguard will be World War II themed. Submarine pens were used frequently during World War II as storage areas where submarines could be protected from air strikes.

Furthermore, ‘Beach Head’ indicates that the map will be set alongside some sort of coast. ‘Caldera’ refers to a geographical feature caused by volcanic eruptions. It’s usually a deep depression caused by a magma chamber erupting. With plenty of volcanoes situated in East Asia, it’s credible to assume that this new Warzone map will use a Pacific setting.
