Ubisoft could be the next big gaming publisher to be acquired by another company, according to a report by Bloomberg.
After Microsoft’s huge acquisition of Activision Blizzard, speculation over which companies might be next has been more common than ever. Some have suggested that Ubisoft could be one of the next companies to be bought out, and according to Bloomberg that could end up being true.
An anonymous source said “Several private equity firms including Blackstone Inc. and KKR & Co. have been studying the French business.” However, “Ubisoft hasn’t entered into any serious negotiations with potential acquirers, and it’s unclear whether its major shareholder is willing to pursue a deal”.
Issues at Ubisoft – Could it be acquired?
The report has been backed up by Kotaku, whose sources suggest the company will eventually sell. According to these sources, the company is having production struggles and issues with stock price.
Ubisoft is best known for publishing games from the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon franchises, among others. The company has also been dabbling in NFTs with little success. In 2016, it held off a hostile takeover by Vivendi.
The company has also had issues with keeping employees on, due to problems with workplace mistreatment and low pay. Whether an acquisition by another company could solve any of these issues is unknown.
