Battlefield 4 servers are being overloaded due to an influx of players following the Battlefield 2042 reveal.
here’s no doubt about it – the hype for Battlefield 2042 is real. Both the reveal trailer and gameplay trailer have now amassed over 20 million views between them. With the return to a near-future setting, fans are turning back to Battlefield 4 to get their all-out warfare fix.
While Battlefield 2042 takes the near-future setting to an almost sci-fi level, Battlefield 4 was set in a similar near-future setting. ‘Was’ being the operative word here. When it was released in 2013, Battlefield 4 was set during a fictional war in 2020. What was once the future is now our best forgotten past.
Despite that, players are returning to Battlefield 4 in their thousands after the reveal of 2042. On Steam alone, the average player count has increased from less than a thousand to over 11k at peak times. That’s not even taking into account the PC players who own the game on EA’s Origin service, or those on consoles.
Battlefield 4 is still a fan favourite
The influx of players has required EA to bump up their server capacities in some regions. Writing on the official EA blog, a community manager says:
“We were absolutely blown away by your excitement and reactions to the recent Battlefield 2042 reveal. Since then, many of you have jumped back into Battlefield 4 to already get a taste of the return to all-out-warfare. We’ve been monitoring your experience and noticed queue times in the US West region were far longer than in other regions. Good news, we’ve increased server capacity for this region – you can expect less waiting, and more playing.”
It’s no wonder that Battlefield 4 is continuing to remain popular almost eight years after its original release. After a rocky launch period, the title made a strong comeback with five exceptional DLC packs. It now holds an incredible amount of content with gunplay and vehicle combat that’s tightly balanced among some excellent map design.
Here’s hoping that Battlefield 2042 can live up to the hype that precedes it. It’s expected to release on 22nd October. We should hear more about it’s additional game modes next month at EA Play Live.
