Shroud has defended Lost Ark amid an ongoing debate over whether the game is pay-to-win, telling haters to “get over it”.
Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has made his opinions on Lost Ark very clear over the past week. At first, he called it the “most boring game” he has ever played and that he has no idea what the developers were thinking in regards to the levelling process.
Now, about a week later, he has defended the game against claims it’s “pay-to-win” by stating all MMORPGs are the same.
Pay-to-win?
On his livestream, he read out one viewer’s comment, saying “Do I care to share my stance on the pay-to-win argument? I mean, it’s simple. There’s no argument there. Every MMORPG is pay-to-win. Get the f**k over it.”

He continued by saying, “There’s always going to be cheaters,” referring to players who cheat by buying gold illegally. “So, if there’s always going to be cheaters, you might as well have the cheating system built into the game.”
This, he thinks, is a way for the developers to profit while the game’s community doesn’t get as annoyed. However, he does think it’s an expensive system and isn’t worthwhile for the player.
He’s definitely not wrong that a lot of MMORPGs have similar systems, but whether Lost Ark’s case is particularly bad is up for debate. Third-party services allow players to buy gold or boosts in other big MMORPG games, and in Lost Ark the chat is often occupied by scammers advertising those kinds of services.
