The Call Of Duty franchise generally swaps and changes its developers depending on the game, and judging from the past, it looks like Infinity Ward is the next developer up to tackle the upcoming game in the series.
Ashton Williams, Senior Communication Manager at Infinity Ward, recently sent COD fans into a frenzy with a single tweet showing off a gif of a skull.

Seems pretty innocuous in itself, but if you really think about it, it’s more than likely one helluva tease about the next COD to come.
Initially it was believed that Williams was references a new Call Of Duty: Ghosts game, a claim that’s since been debunked by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier.

So, if it’s not Ghosts, there’s only two things that make any sort of logical sense: a Modern Warfare 2 remaster, or Modern Warfare 4.
A Modern Warfare game – whether a remake or something brand-new – makes the most sense because Infinity Ward is the company behind the Modern Warfare series of games. Plus, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley of MW2 is well-known for his skull-patterned balaclava.

Naturally, Twitter is all over the news as people get down to speculating about the cryptic potential clue.

The diehard fans wants mw4 the noobies want ghost 2 because they have no idea how sweet mw1 was etc will be such a letdown if it’s ghost 2

I get that. Name recognition is big and Ghosts wouldn’t sell as well as a new Modern Warfare title after an 8 year hiatus though. Ghosts sold so well I think because it was also a launch title for a new generation of consoles and had a lot of double purchases.
