Continuing to prove that he really is the best of us, Keanu Reeves reportedly donated 70% of his earnings from The Matrix to cancer research charities.
As reported by the New York Post, star of the recent Matrix Resurrections movie has donated $31.5 million to cancer research charities. That’s around 70% of the total amount he earned for his part in the original Matrix movie. Reeves was apparently paid $10 million upfront for his leading role of Neo. He then earned a further $35 million once the movie took off at the box office.
The donated money was sent to leukaemia research charities, a case that’s close to the personal history of Reeves. His sister Kim was diagnosed with blood cancer in 1991. After 10 years spent in and out of hospital, she later went into remission in 2001.
Keanu Reeves is renowned for his humble and generous manner. Even after his sister overcame cancer, the beloved movie star continued to donate his wealth to charity. He even set up his own cancer research fund but kept his name off the paperwork.
Most gamers will recognise Reeves as Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077. It was at an E3 reveal when his appearance on stage gave us the wholesome “You’re breath-taking!” moment. With the generosity he consistently shows, this is proof that it’s always been Keanu who’s breath-taking.
Keanu Reeves is set to star in the fourth John Wick movie which just saw a delay to March 2023.
