COD 2022 Will Be Called ‘Modern Warfare II’, Not ‘Modern Warfare 2’

Corroborating earlier reports, Call of Duty 2022 will reportedly be titled “Modern Warfare II”, continuing the 2019 reboot.

Reports surfaced just last month claiming that the next Call of Duty would be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering it was one of the most popular entries in the franchise in years. The reboot has to be among my favourites of the franchise.

It seems now we have further confirmation that we’ll be playing a Modern Warfare sequel next year. Industry Insider Tom Henderson claimed that the next COD will be titled “Modern Warfare II”.

Chuck On Some Roman Numerals ON Modern Warfare II

The news will be a delight to many awaiting the return of the Modern Warfare storyline. The 2019 reboot turned out to be a sort of prequel reboot of the original Modern Warfare game. Fans began to speculate on what the next game in the franchise would be called. With Modern Warfare 2 being one of the most popular entries in the series, how would Activision avoid the confusion with a rename? By chucking some roman numerals on that bad boy, apparently.

Joking aside I think this is the best approach. I’d rather not have to deal with yet another Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. It’s quite the mouthful. And who doesn’t love a bit of roman numerals. If it’s good enough for the Grand Theft Auto series, it’s good enough for Call of Duty. Henderson went on to explain that he had seen artwork using the title, but that it doesn’t confirm it will be the title for sure.

"Confirm" was a wrong choice of wording here – I can confirm that I've seen artwork that says "Modern Warfare II" – But this does not necessarily confirm the title is 100% Modern Warfare II as names can change during development.

With Modern Warfare 2019 launching Warzone, I’d be curious to see where it takes the battle royale. Call of Duty Vanguard will bring in a new Pacific Warzone map with its first season. I’d love to see a denser city scape that what we got in Verdansk, which is set to blow up this month. We won’t know anything official on the matter until next summer most likely.
