Rainbow Six Extraction Delayed To January 2022

Rainbow Six Extraction has been delayed until January 2022.

Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege spin-off title was supposed to be released on 16th September this year. However, the development team has decided that it needs a little longer in the preparation phase. It’s now been delayed by around four months to early next year.

The studio puts the delay down to the team’s lofty ambitions while building Rainbow Six Extraction, saying that it wants to “[change] the way you play and think about cooperative games.”

In a blog post, the team writes:

“With unique features like Missing In Action or The Sprawl, every mission is set to be a tense and challenging experience in which you’ll lead the elite operators of Rainbow Six in a fight against a lethal and evolving alien threat.

“We are embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022. We are confident this will ensure Rainbow Six Extraction is the immersive, cooperative, and thrilling experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire to play.”

A delayed game is eventually good, etc, etc

So far, the response seems mostly positive from those who are looking forward to the game. Twitch streamer Sophie ‘Cadea’ Keen writes, “Sad but I’d always rather company’s take the time they need to fulfill their vision!”

Ex-professional Rainbow Six Siege player also supports the delay: “It’s much better to delay & eventually get a game released in a proper state than to release early and suffer the consequences of a “not ready” game.”

We last saw Rainbow Six Extraction at E3 earlier this year. It was only a little under two months ago when Ubisoft slapped the September release date on the game. At the same time, Ubisoft also announced a name change for the title due to an unfortunate pandemic crossover.

Extraction takes the Operator gameplay from the popular Rainbow Six Siege game and plants them in a tactical horde-based mode. Squads of three are tasked with advancing through quarantine zones infested with an alien parasite. Zones will get progressively harder and your loot is always at risk of being lost. You’ll need to weigh up whether to advance to more difficult zones or cut your losses and perform an extraction.
