In a move that I find equally hilarious and wholesome, Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has admitted to pretending to use Force powers all the time.
Don’t lie – every Star Wars fan has tried it. We all know the feeling of reaching our hand for the TV remote, only to wishfully will it into our hands like a couch potato Jedi Knight. Well, it turns out that actual Jedi Knights do exactly the same thing. Ok, maybe not actual Jedi Knights – but certainly the people who portray them on screen.
Ewan McGregor is doing the interview rounds for his upcoming return to the iconic Star Wars character, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he admitted to pretending to use Force powers on automatic doors.
McGregor is referring to a movement that he performs in Attack of the Clones where Obi-Wan Kenobi uses the force to rip open a door in pursuit of Jango Fett. He of course uses a much less aggressive motion in real life – he doesn’t want to be too conspicuous. However, he does say that he’s been caught doing it before. How embarrassing!
“It’s just always for my own [amusement], because it makes me laugh, but occasionally I’ve been caught doing that, and that’s kind of embarrassing,” McGregor remarks. “It’s difficult not to, isn’t it? It’s fun. If the timing is right, it feels very powerful.” Again, this is something that Star Wars nerds everywhere can attest to – it most certainly feels powerful. At least we can be safe in the knowledge that Ewan McGregor is as much a nerd as the rest of us.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Releases Soon
The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show is set to release on May 25th 2022. It sees both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return to play their characters from the Star Wars prequel movies. Set between Episode III and IV, it will explore Kenobi’s life as he evades the empire and watches over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.
