It’s been reported that the Mexican cartel is recruiting real-life drug mules in GTA Online, which is very concerning indeed.
As we all know, the GTA franchise has always revolved around very controversial themes. It’s one of the many aspects that the franchise has continued to be extremely popular over the decades.
GTA ONLINE WAS USED AS A RECRUITMENT TOOL
One other popular aspect of the series is GTA Online. In a nutshell, this allows you to partake in the world of GTA, but with other players. Complete story missions, work as a team in risky heists, take part in races or build a criminal empire. The world of GTA Online has it all.
However, one aspect of the GTA franchise that you might not expect to crossover into real life is the criminal business of drug trafficking. Unfortunately, that appears to be a reality according to a report from cogconnected.com.
According to the report, two players met in GTA Online and soon became friends via their social media channels. It’s also claimed that the couple eventually met in person too. Following these moments, an individual was asked to traffic 60 kgs of methamphetamine.
THE SMUGGLER WAS PROMISED TO EARN $2K
Agreeing to the job based upon financial gain reported to earn $2,000, the individual was stopped by Customs and Border Protection officials when the drugs were seized.
Furthermore, the individual that offered the job informed that person trafficking the goods that they would only be shipping electronics to Mexico. As we know, that certainly wasn’t the case.
NARCOTICS WERE HIDDEN IN THE FUEL TANK
It is reported that the cartel will often smuggle narcotics hidden within electronic equipment. However, in this case, it was discovered that the narcotics were hidden in the fuel tank of a jeep.
It is said the individual caught by border control pleaded not guilty to all charges, including possession of methamphetamine. Sadly, it’s highly unlikely that this individual is not the only victim of a drug trafficking enterprise via popular video games.

As a parent, it’s always vital to know what your children are playing and who they are communicating with online. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to keep track of everything. In the UK, county lines recruitment is a damaging criminal enterprise not only to the children but also to the families involved.
