The iconic Jim Carrey, famous for his roles in films such as The Truman Show, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, has announced his plans to retire after starring in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Speaking in a new interview with Access, the Hollywood legend claims, ‘fairly seriously’, that he wants to at least take a break from acting and take some time to appreciate ‘the quiet life’.
He continued: ‘It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road but I’m taking a break’
‘I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough’.
This news comes hours after two clips resurfaced online showing him grabbing, and kissing, a then 20-year-old Alicia Silverstone at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards as she presented his award. Critics are branding Carrey a ‘hypocrite’ after he condemned his fellow celebs giving Will Smith a standing ovation for winning Best Actor after slapping Chris Rock live on stage.
James Marsden has previously spoken about working with Carrey in the Sonic movie franchise:
“I grew up, and I was in high school emulating him and watching him on In Living Color doing his thing”.
“For him to take a little break from the business and come back with the Showtime show and then this. To chew the scenery with his amazing ways and just have fun doing it again was a real joy for me because he’s always been an inspiration.’
