Apple can be a bit precious with user customisation, so it can be quite hard learning how to change app icons in iOS 15 without any guidance. Apple is slowly changing this for the better, but it seems to be a long bridge between consumer customisable features and Apple’s stalwart stance on premium experiences.

How To Change App Icons In iOS 15
We’re going to be showing users how they can use the iOS 15 Shortcuts app to create their own paths to the app they’d like to open using the image they want. It sounds long-winded, but once users get their heads around classic Apple logic, it’s quite easy to do. Let’s get into it:
Shortcuts And Action Paths
Load up the Shortcuts app and tap the “+” icon on the top-right corner followed by “+ Add Action”. Next, we want to tell the newly created shortcut how to act when tapped.
Search for “Open App” then find “App” and select it. Now the action is taken care of let’s set the destination app. So for example, if a user wanted to change an app icon for Twitter, select Twitter.
Finally, tap the “Open App” text field at the top of the screen to rename the shortcut to the app that has just been selected.

Glyphs – How To Change App Icons
If you wish to choose an icon instead of a picture, Glyphs are really made to look at the part on iOS 15. If a user fancies it just tap the top-left shortcut icon and pick a colour and Glyph to use.
Once this has been done, tap “Done” and then tap the menu icon in the Shortcut creation screen. users will then have the option to “Add To Home Screen”, select this followed by “Add” to complete the shortcut process.
How To Change App Icons
Rather than dancing around setting up a Glyph, users simply need to tap the menu button on the Shortcut creation screen. Next, tap “Add to Home Screen” and hit the default app icon in the preview window to add a picture to the icon.
Select “Choose Photo” and then select the image or vector needed for the app icon. Finally, zoom and crop to your liking and select “Choose” followed by “Add”. Tapping on this custom Shortcut should now load up the app needed.
