The Competitive Play mode of Overwatch was released last week but some players are having a troubled time. Developer Blizzard has been accused by a lot of players for handing out penalties in an inappropriate manner.
Some players have even been punished for mid-game disconnection. Blizzard, however, has assured that there will be a solution to this problem soon.

The players who disconnect from a match should actually be able get back into the game with no penalty if they reconnect successfully. But a lot of players are being penalized for the same reason at the moment, which affects their skill ratings and results in a loss, despite winning the game.
The game’s director, Jeff Kaplan, wrote on the Blizzard forums that a patch will hopefully come next week. He however didn’t divulge any further details in this matter.

The Competitive Play mode was rolled out for Overwatch on PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 30.
