Just a few short months after it released, Destruction AllStars will start using bots to fill out empty lobbies.
Developer Lucid Games recently issued an update on the game’s subreddit. It details much of what’s to come for the destruction derby title. Alongside the quality of life updates, the team is adding AI players to online matches to make up for the dwindling player count.

“With a community the size of Destruction AllStars, spread out across the world we do have peak times and low times of player activity for online matchmaking,” Lucid Games says.
“We want to ensure that matches are filled to capacity with as many real players as possible, but when missing X amount of players when queuing for a match, AI bots will take the remaining places.”
Lucid Dreams doesn’t specify exactly how many people are still playing Destruction AllStars. However, it’s not enough for lobbies to feel busy at off-peak times.
The dwindling player count isn’t a good sign for the budding vehicle game. However, it could be explained by the low number of people who actually own a PS5 at the moment, given Destruction AllStars is exclusive to the platform. Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t think that the PS5 stock situation is likely to improve anytime soon.

Keeping the game alive for longer
Still, adding bots into Destruction AllStar lobbies isn’t such a bad thing. It means that the game will at least remain playable for longer.
So many online-only games these days are rendered unplayable by server issues and low player counts. We recently discussed why games experience these issues, and why games should always include an offline mode.

The addition of bots also shows that Lucid Dreams is dedicated to the future of Destruction AllStars. The studio has committed to several new seasons with lots of new features arriving soon.
Most recently, a photo mode was added which allows players to capture their most extravagant moments in style.
Coming up in a future update are global parties and playlist features. These will allow players to find and queue for their favourite game modes much more easily than before.
