Activision has unveiled the next chapter of Call of Duty Zombies which will be debuting in Vanguard later this year.
Call of Duty Zombies is usually a staple of the Black Ops sub-series of the shooter. However, Treyarch wasn’t quite finished with the Dark Aether storyline in Cold War. As such, the studio is returning to assist on the development of Zombies for Sledgehammer’s WW2 entry, Vanguard.

The description of the trailer doesn’t give too much away. It merely reads: ‘Your mission: Stop the undead army with a new set of Dark Aether skills. Welcome to Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies.’ I thought the goal of killing the undead would have been rather obvious in a Zombies game, but I’m glad we cleared that up.
What’s new?
The trailer shows the new player characters wielding classic World War 2 weaponry against hordes of the undead. Built in the updated IW7 engine that was used for 2019’s Modern Warfare, it’s certainly a looker. It seems that there’ll be plenty of new enemy types and abilities to get to grips with, too. One particularly nasty blighter appears at the end, swaggering through a portal and towering above everyone else. I wouldn’t want to go up against that lad in a hurry.
As usual, this new Zombies mode will be fully playable as a co-op experience. It’s set to continue where Cold War left off and follow on from the story that players have been following along for the last year.

The trailer is underscored by an especially eerie remix of Billie Eilish’s ‘bury a friend’ track. Call of Duty never fails to impress with its bombastic trailers, and it seems to have done the same here. The like to dislike ratio is already looking overwhelmingly positive from an early glance.
