Activision has finally revealed Call of Duty Vanguard, and has announced the upcoming WW2 shooter will be launching on November 5th.
Activision and Sledgehammer Games unveiled the return to a World War 2 setting through an in-game reveal in Warzone. Call of Duty Vanguard has had a wild road of leaks, rumours and worries. But the yearly shooter is back and sticking to its familiar November window of release.
With a new campaign, new zombies mode and an eventual new Warzone map, there will be plenty for players to dive into when Vanguard launches this November.
Packed Launch
Call of Duty Vanguard will see the return of a WW2 setting, which made up many of the early Call of Duty games and was most recently seen in 2017’s WWII. While the latter wasn’t received particularly well from fans, Vanguard is aiming to capture everything players love about Call of Duty.
Vanguard’s campaign will feature four protagonists, lead by Sgt. Arthur Kingsley, as they hunt down the leader of the Gestapo at the end of WW2. Accompanying Kingsley are Polina Petrova, Wade Jackson, and Lucas Riggs, who’ll fight their way across the globe in their mission.
Players not interested in the campaign still have plenty to get excited about. Treyarch is back developing their own WW2-era Zombies mode, which will feature the origins of the Dark Aether storyline introduced in Cold War.
Secondly, Warzone will continue to be spearheaded by Raven Software. It will receive a WW2-themed map and a highly-requested anti-cheat software. However, it isn’t clear if Warzone’s updates will arrive at launch.
Besides different modes, however, Vanguard comes with a host of new gameplay features. Namely, it will see the return of the Modern Warfare engine, meaning Vanguard will step away from the arcade playstyle of Cold War. In its place will be a more tactical experience, only bolstered by the destructible environments we got a glimpse of in the gameplay trailer. And this new gameplay will be on full display across Vanguard’s 20 multiplayer maps on launch.
Coming This Year
Vanguard is shaping up to be a return to form for the franchise, after the lacklustre Cold War. With each of Call of Duty’s studios collaborating on different elements, I can’t wait to get my hands on it when it launches on November 5th.
