All big video game franchises seem to be jumping on board the battle pass bandwagon, and Call of Duty: Vanguard is no different. However, this time around they’re monetising killcams.
The trailer for the Season One battle pass for Call of Duty: Vanguard is out, and it confirmed that one more aspect of the game is being tied to monetisation. These cosmetics are called “killcam vanities“, which feature borders that adorn a player’s killcam.
These vanities can be earned by playing the Season One battle pass for Vanguard and Warzone Pacific when it launches.
Killcam Vanities
It’s not the worst thing we’ve ever seen, but it feels like the game has monetised just about everything at this point. There are plenty of other cosmetics in line with what you’d expect from a Call of Duty game too.
Fans of Call of Duty aren’t taking too kindly to the inclusion of these killcam vanities. One player described the cosmetics as “ugly af”, saying, “it’s literally just a png they put over your killcam“. And yeah, that’s pretty much it.
This is just another in a long list of features being monetised by big budget franchises. Call of Duty isn’t alone, as plenty of other games are introducing similarly pointless kinds of customisation. Halo Infinite lets you change the shade of your A.I, even though 99% of the time they’re just a voice-over.
